Kruger Ambassador ManitouCruiser  - cheers the participants on in the 2015 running of the C2C; now where are the rest of the Krugerheads?

Every picture tells a story; ManitouCruiser herds as many Krugerheads together for a photo op; not bad, only two missing from the herd.

C2C - campus to coast 2015 (notes from the field)

The stage is set - High winds, flood warnings; a dream come true for Krugerheads everywhere; somewhere in the Krugerhead handbook it says - use craft only if experiencing BIG adventure; I think they got it.  Here are some scouting pictures to wet your safety whistle.

It's all plastics and ball bearings...

Wheel fail; in the throws of adversity comes innovation and new technology; I give you the new age of the wheel...

"This is the lore that inspire false telling's; the days of ironmen and pneumatic wheels are for never more... its a new age - sealed bearings and polymer plastics".

"Dang... we got a lot of catching up to do"

Campus to Coast is a paddle sport adventure race put on by the Michigan State University Outdoors Club. The race starts on MSU’s campus at the Rock, following the Red Cedar River into the Grand River and out through Grand Haven, finishing at Grand Haven State Park. The race is approximately 160 miles, with estimations of the fastest times being anywhere from 36-40 hours and 57 hours being the cut-off time. Because this event happens ea...rly in the year, and will require paddling at night there is required gear; found in the rules. This race also contains 7 portages, along with one section where racers must “canoe line” a small section of fall over dams.

Due to the inherent dangers of canoeing/kayaking, cold weather, night river travel, and dams, every racer should be well aware of the protocols regarding emergency situations (found in the rules). Racers also must be aware of their own abilities, strengths, and weaknesses before undertaking this event. Everyone is welcome to take part in any division they are applicable for; however they should take into consideration all risks (frost bite, hypothermia, drowning, death, etc.). “Prior planning prevents piss poor performance.” as they say, plan appropriately and you should all have an expedition of a lifetime.

2015 WaterTribe Everglades Challenge and UM Events Terminated

News Release

Coast Guard terminates Water Tribe Everglades Challenge near Englewood, Fla.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to terminate the WaterTribe Everglades Challenge near Englewood, Florida, due to safety of life at sea concerns Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg have coordinated the rescue of more than 11 people from the water during the small-craft regatta, which started in Tampa Bay, Florida, and ends in Key Largo, Florida. There has been reports of people with various stages of hyperthermia and the weather on scene continues to deteriorate to 4-foot seas and 20-knot winds.

The Coast Guard will terminate the event at the first check point at Cape Haze Marina in Englewood.
"Our number one concern is safety of life at sea," said Chief Petty Officer Rob Davis, a search and rescue coordinator at the sector. "With the weather deteriorating quickly, no manifest provided to the Coast Guard and unknown safety spotters on scene, we will unfortunately have to terminate the event."

Crews from Coast Guard Cutter Hawk, Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg, Coast Guard Station Cortez, Florida, and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, are on scene and will continue to provide an escort and search and rescue support until termination is complete.

March Madness!! EC kicks off this am

Team Kruger aka - Krugerheads saddle up for the running of the 2015 Everglades Challenge this morning; it's a mystery where and what happened last night at the campground EC mixer, I can neither confirm or deny the shenanigans, sea faring tales or alcohol shared - police reports are sketchy.

Kruger canoes with a multitude of sail configurations; the herd gathers edging ever so close to the high water mark on the beach; tic toc, tic toc... chief's epic skipper's meeting in 5!!

Ben sporting the 2015 Kruger spring wear the vortex tie-dye says it all; calibrate your compass dude and at some point share with the team the new sail rig configuration. Looking good!!

Chief gives the pre-race mandatory briefing; the do's don'ts and what if's are shared; trusted Flat Sally at his side gives hope to those that are one dimensional in their approach to the event; paddle, sail, row - crawl if you have to, but don't give up; there is always one more thing you can do!!

Adventure On .

Everglades Challenge 2015

Expedition-Style Adventure Racing In Small Boats

“The purpose of WaterTribe is to encourage the development of boats, equipment, skills and human athletic performance for safe and efficient coastal cruising using minimal impact human and wind powered watercraft based on sea kayaks, canoes, and small sailboats.” ~ Chief, February 2000
“A life changing experience!” ~ Heard many times.

What does expedition-style mean? It means that you need to be self-sufficient and carry all the supplies and equipment that you would expect to carry on a major kayaking or sailing expedition. This is not a “round the buoys” race with an empty boat and someone watching out for your safety. You are on your own.

We present to you Team Kruger Canoes for the up-coming Everglades Challenge 2015. May the weather Gods be in your favor; may sunny skies, warm blue water and winds from the northwest prevail!!  Adventure on!!
